i have a an insert mesh
if i activate curve mode it turns out all funky
the first and last mesh of the curve only show 1 polygroup (front)
while the rest in the curve show another polygroup (sides)

Try turning off Brush>Modifiers>Triparts. When there are three polygroups ZBrush will treat them as beginning, middle and end when that option is on.
