Anyone see this guy in the May issue of National Geographic? 121 Welcome.
I’m getting thirsty just LOOKEN at him!
LOVE the decorative feathers.
I can’t offer too much 121 considering it’s so well done.
That is awesome. I love the colors and the textures are terrific. Can I ask how you did the feathers? Are they Z?
Thought you might like to see this, S!
I took it at Expo 86 in Vancouver, in the Peruvian pavillion…
Great job on yours!
That is soooo cool, SC! I saw a picture of this somewhere (maybe the same article).
Vikki, the feathers were done with the fiber brush, z-off, then the snake brush for the “stem”, then finally a bit of smudge tool to “comb” the feathers. Thanks for asking. The feathers took the longest because I was not sure how to do them. I started that layer over about 5 times before I was happy with it.
I made a zscript showing how I did this, but as usual, my scripts won’t play back properly. Maybe one of the gurus can look at it for me and figure out why it won’t show anything.
Edit: Still wish I could fix the above link, but this one should work. It is a single yellow feather, but you can get the general idea.
Hey Slosh!
Yep the single yellow feather script works a treat and it is awesome! Thanks for the script! It’s terrific.
Very cool, and very realistic. It inspires feelings of ancient things quite well.
pretty cool i didn’t even see this post.
when you started you had [IUnPress,DRAW:ZADD]
Mean you had ZADD OFF you can only have ZADD off if you fill the layer from the start.
if you want i can post a ZScript on what you did wrong so you can correct your self next time.
some times i can’t explain good in writing but im sure if i showed you in a ZScript how to do it you would fully understand.
peace of cake
That is some serious material texture and rock texture you have there Slosh, excellent piece, even MY mummy would love this
arran
EZ, any help you have to offer would be great. Are you referring to the first script (the bad one) or the second? I know the second has some redundant commands, such as the Z-off, but you’ll see after I filled the layer that I needed z-off for the fiber brush.
PS: This is the first time I ever noticed the little “thread preview window” at the bottom of the post reply screen. Has it always been there?
I did see the cover and I recognized it right away. Great job Slosh!
Hey Slosh, this picture doesn’t come from an article, I took it myself at Expo 86, the Worlds’ Fair that was held here…I shot it with a telephoto lens through the glass case… I also have others, including a skull with a set of Rose Quartz dentures he was given while alive, and another with two operations on it, and the gold surgical instrument used to open the skull…!
nice mummy slosh love the way you made the cloth and feathers great work
SC, it’s incredible that you took this picture. I have seen the same mummy in another photo somewhere on the web. I’ve been trying to locate it, but no luck. Very nice photog work, BTW. Is this something you do on a regular basis, or is it just an occasional thing?
As another thought, I want to thank everyone for their comments. I actually modelled the skull back in May when I got the mag, but couldn’t think of how to achieve the rest of the image. Then, KenB did his awesome skull, so I didn’t want to post right away. Sometimes it helps to put something on the back burner until you are more inspired.
Excellent work Slosh, the cloth on the top of the skull is perfectly textured and the feathers are great.
Nice one!
Something to do with this ?
“Tintin et les sept boules de cristal”
Rascar Capac : the mummy
Pilou
I saw the cover, and was completely fascinated by the textures in that photo. Your rendering is really very well done. A very accomplished piece. Bravo!
can’t believe this one got past me, Slosh…very kewl stuff…the feathers added just the right touch to this piece…very nice…there is another mummy type thing you may or may not have heard of called the Bogmen I believe…people died and were preserved in peat moss bogs…keep up the great work
