Or is there a workaround?
they are darkened so you can see the tool that you’re working on, you can fill your subtools with a white color (select the subtool, color > fill object)
Like ISK said but don’t forget to activate the MRGB button before you do it.

Thanks - Hey, I noticed your machine stats in your sig line. I’m using an older machine, but I’m thinking about upgrading. How much better did your performance get after you switched to the more powerful computer?
I just can’t begin to describe the difference going from 32 bit and 2Gigs of ram to what I have now.
Everything just runs so smooth and there is almost no limit to the polycount.
Before I used to struggle with a 2million poly head and the system was barely reacting when trying to rotate or do anything to the modell. No I can have a modell with 25 million polys mesh and there is no difference than handling a level 1 mesh.
So if you want a nicer ZBrush experience, don’t hessitate to upgrade.

Oh man that sounds so awesome. You just made up my mind!
Thanks.
ioster, I haven`t tried it yet but you can also change the inactive SubTool dimming:
Preference->Edit->Inactive SubTool Dimming
That’s the answer I was looking for! Thanks!
