I don’t know where to post this, so Imma post it here.
But I’d really like to see an improved matcap baking workflow. Right now to bake matcaps effectively you basically have to use the Zapplink through a few tricks, its time consuming, requires alot of manual set up.
I was thinking it’d be cool if, right in the viewport, you had like a ‘Bake Matcap’ brush. And when you painted on the model with it, it basically would just project the current matcap from the current angle straight into the polypaint. So then you could do a brush stroke down the front, flip the model around, stroke down the back, flip the model to get a stroke down either side, then your done. If you had a few odd nooks and crannies to get matcap baking into, or if you wanted to get a matcap baked onto a certain spot of the model, from a certain angle, just look at the model from that angle and put a stroke on the model right there.
I think the matcap baking is a way more powerful function than most people recognize it for. It’s become an essential component of all skins I create for video games.
