Impoting Alphas

Hi everyone,

I’m having trouble importing alphas. I have been working on a tileable mesh/texture tutorial, and can save the alpha to a directory of my choice, work on the alpha in photoshop, save it out, navigate to it in Zbrush… but when I select it, nothing loads, the sample is blank with the filename under it.

As a test I moved the file to the alpha folder where Zbrush looks for Alphas and can load it from there… After I close Zbrush, it won’t restart until I remove the alpha that I moved into its directory structure.

Any ideas… The tut I’m watching shows that the alpha can be saved and loaded as I would expect.

I am using ZB4R2, and the file is a PSD grayscale 16bits per channel, the size is 2048X2048.

Go to Preferences > Performance and set ‘PreLoad File Size’ to maximum before you import the alpha. BTW, this is fixed in 4R3.

If your alpha is 16 bit and is 512 x 512 or smaller, then you don’t have to do this.

Thank you, this worked…! Is there a way to make this setting “stick”, or is this maybe the fix in r3?

Unfortunately, you can’t save that setting with ‘Save Config’ in 4R2b. You can in 4R3 though.
