Imposible file average

Hi everyone!! Since two weeks ago I have been suffering some troubles with a personal project I am working on. In the begining, the file size is 1.900.000 Kb and I dont know why because I have removed all subtools and also the subvdivisions from the only one I have left on the project (which is just a retopo of a head). Despite that, the file already has 957.342 KB.

This issue is preventing me to export normal maps or so, even with sizes not longer than 512 of resolution. In fact, when I try to do that, suddenly appears an Internal Error refering to the RAM (my computer has 16gB Ram).

What is more, even if a take the subtool and remove the higest subdivisions leaving only the retopo mesh, when I try to generate a normal map, the software tell me that I need to decrease de subdivisions level (?!?!? What??)

What is the software saving in the file to mantain this average??

Thanks for spending your time reading this lines!!

Are you saving your Undo History with the file? That will explode file size as files develop larger and larger histories for multiple subtools.

Hi Spydnel! Yes, I thought it could be the cause and I have tried to solve it just saving the project without the undo check mark active, but its average is still too large (900.000). :frowning:

File sizes for large projects between 500 mb and 1 gb are not uncommon. It shouldn’t be interfering with your ability to export maps at that size though, as long as you have 16gb of ram, and are using the 64 bit version of the program (the 32 bit version of the program cannot use more than 4gb of ram regardless of how much you have).

I can’t know what all you might have saved in your project file, so try just saving the tool in question as a tool (Tool> Save as), opening that file and exporting your maps from it.
