importing zbrush into photoshop?

With Photoshop CS3 you can open .OBJ files- this much I know. I’ve exported .OBJ files from ZBrush and opened them in Photoshop, but they come out without any textures or colors(and I’ve had to merge the subtools in ZBrush before exporting in order to get the full model). BTW, I still think that it’s pretty neat that this can be done at all.

In the PSCS3 tutorials I’ve seen, the OBJ files seem to have all the textures in layers, and they show up just fine on the 3d object in Photoshop. What do I need to do to have a ZBrush sculpt open in Photoshop, complete with its textures? Has anyone played around with this?

I work in a commercial storyboard studio, and we thought it would be pretty neat to create 3d objects and then be able to import them into 2d work in photoshop(things like products, i.e. soup cans, etc). This isn’t the primary reason we have ZBrush, but it’s something that would come in handy.

Right now, the workaround is to just export the posed anti-aliased object as an image on a white background and then just cut and paste it into our illustrations.

I’m going to bump this thread, because I am was going to ask the same question

You must have Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended to be able to use this feature.
Import or create your object inside Zbrush and assign a texture to it.Then
export this tool as an .obj.The texture and material will be exported with it.
Open Photoshop and go to File/Open and choose the .obj you exported. The
texture will be imported with it.You should see at least 3 layers.

1.Layer1
2.Textures
3.Name of the obj

If you 2xclick layer 3 it will open your texture so you are able to edit it.
Hope this helps.
