Importing .STL Files?

Can an STL file be opened in Z? I know we can export as .STL, but I have a file i want to open.

Also, does platform matter with the .stl extension? I dont know if it was done on a pc or mac. i cant actually open the file in maya either.

i was able to open the file in maya and then GoZ with it, but i am still wondering if .stl can be opened with Zbrush?

ZBrush cannot import STL. Only export, via 3D Print Exporter.
