importing .mtl colour information to Maya

Does anyone know how to import .mtl colour information from zbrush into Maya? I did all my colouring for Bitey the imp in Zbrush and I need to somehow find a way to get it imported into Maya. I’ve gotten the .objs that make up bitey imported, but I just can’t for the life of me figure out how to get the colours to go with it.

Please help. I need to get all the colour information into maya by tomorrow. If it’s not possible to do so, is there a way that I can repaint it IN Maya?

Thanks everyone.

If your character is uv mapped you can convert your color information to a texture in the texture tab. Then apply the texture to your shader in maya.

Is this all in Maya? All I really know is that the colour information was saved as a .mtl. I’m not really

In Zbrush I painted on all the colour straight onto the model and then I hit, under the texture tab in zbrush: Col>Txr

I saved the creature as a .obj and the colour/texture stuff was saved as .mtl files… I think they are the colour stuff. thats as far as I got in Zbrush. Now I have to import it all into Maya.

I really need some help with this. I can’t figure this out. thanks everyone.

not sure if i understood well your problem, butif you already done your col/texture ,therefore already have uvs on your model, this should create a texture in your textures tool palette…all you have left to do is export this into .bmp or .psd?
did i understood your problem right?
abe

okay. now how do I export it as a .bmp or .psd?

If you are using Maya you can export it ( the texture) from

Maya as either a bmp or a psd.
When your object is in Maya assign it a shader.
In the shader channel marked color double click the
checkerboard icon to the extreme right.
It will open a selection box with various choices.
You can either pick file ( if your texture is a bmp) or Photoshop
if your exported file is a .psd.
Dont forget to flip the map in zbrush before you export it.

Need to mention this, you are using both material and texture
together. When you are talking about texture these are the
steps. When you are talking about the actual material used
you basically cannot export what you are seeing.

Edit: it is still early,Aurick isn’t awake yet, when he does, the thread
will be moved to the troubleshooting section

Thanks for your help. I still couldn’t quite figure it out, but I’m sure I’ll learn in time. Perhaps I’m getting too far ahead of myself too quickly. Well one thing’s for sure, I’ve got a long way to go before I can match up to hollywood quality graphics and such (my goal:P)
