Hi everyone,
I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction with what I hope is a simple problem…
I’m a ‘traditional’ sculptor who sometimes plays with Zbrush for concept work, therefore do not have much knowledge of the technical aspect of meshes etc.
My current client has laser scanned one of my sculpts for rapid prototyping and wants me to emboss some text onto the 3D model before it is printed. I thought it would be fairly straight forward but am struggling from the start!
When I import the .obj mesh (which was converted from nurbs by the scanning company) it seems very low res and slightly corrupted. I’ve attached a screenshot.
The scanning company say the file is fine. When I use Tri2quad slider and subdivide, I still can’t seem to smooth the mesh.
I had assumed I would just import a perfect mesh and emboss the text. Am I being unrealistic? Or is the scanned mesh to blame? When I convert the tris to quads on import the resulting mesh has only 115,000 polys. I would have thought it should be in the millions for a laser scan?

Hoping for some opinions before I ring the scanning company and make a fool of myself!
Cheers,
