Importing large meshes? 150mil plus

Is there anyway of importing very hi-triagulated meshes? It crashes everytime I try. Stating memory.
I have 64gb ram I7 12cores Quadro 4000 card.

I am trying to import laser scanned meshes of large landscapes that are really messy so I just want to projection map it and use decimation master. Any ideas? Only thing I can think of is to import very small pieces and projection map parts of it.

ZBrush can’t use all of your RAM. Smaller ‘chunks’ might import easier.

Thanks it looks like most programs cannot handle large polycounts well. I just bought Balancer to try and decimate the mesh down to 10 million triangles. I will see how that works. I am really impressed with Balancer. I imported a 400million mesh no problem.

I read somewhere the upper limit to import in ZBrush is around 10million faces? Is this sound about right?

22 million or so per subtool with standard subD levels

billions with HD Geo

Is there a import limit? I cannot seem to import higher than 10mil faces. I can work with higher counts but It crashes everytime I import a mesh thats higher.

dunno, never really had scan data that high.

Thanks, I am a bit experimenting and I am also working on a gigantic scan of landscape…It was a bit of a nightmare with every software I used.

I found importing a decimated full size mesh to project first then I imported smaller hi poly meshes to project one at a time in a grid was the only way to get it done.
