Is there a way to import a displacement map into zbrush that was made in another application? I have projected some type on a bowl and the positioning is all perfect (something that would have been hard to achieve in zbrush i think) but my displacement needs to be more organic, it’s too perfect as a projected material so I would like to be able to work into it further. Can anyone help?
The map must be a 16-bit grayscale PSD. It can then be imported into the Alpha palette. Once there, create a blank texture of the same size. Turn off Transform>Quick and set Tool>Display Properties>DSmooth to 1. Now divide your model to have enough polygons to support the details from the map.
In the Tool>Displacement Map menu, adjust the Intensity value until your displacements look right. Once it all looks good, press the ApplyDispMap button to convert the details from displacement to actual geometry. You can now sculpt your model and eventually create a new displacement map.
