i’ve seen this happen time and again…troubles importing an obj from Maya or Max into ZBrush. I notice in Max 2010, there is an obj ZBrush export option, which I’ve checked. The problem is, when importing the obj into ZB, instead, it has me painting pixols onto the canvas, instead of drawing my newly imported obj onto the canvas. At first, I thought that maybe the mesh needed to be watertight with absolutely no holes…sadly this doesn’t prove to be the case. I’ve tried importing the same obj into MudBox and it comes in fine and dandy…just not into ZB. This isn’t subjected to just one specific obj either, I’ve seen this problem on many obj’s. I know some people will say, “just do it in Mudbox then if it comes in there”… That would be true if only I liked working with Mudbox! I would just prefer my models come into ZBrush every time, because I like the flow, interface and toolset much better. This seems to be a random problem and can’t get it to consistantly replicate itself. Any thoughts? Any fixes??? Thanks in advance.
Is there a new tool in the tool palette? What about the normals? Maybe flipping them helps (display properties->Flip).
After you draw your imported object on the canvas, immediately press T to enter Edit mode so that you can sculpt its polygons.
Thanks for your help so far. The tool isn’t displayed in the tool palette, normals are fine and it doesn’t even draw out on the canvas after import to press “T” for edit mode. I can shoot someone the obj if you’d like to take a look at importing. It’s basically just a beam that I was trying to bring in, so it’s a very simplistic box.
From the Tool Menu choose the PolyMesh parametric primitive. Then go to Import and bring in your tool. Draw it ONCE on the canvas, then hit T once. Should work.
