Hi all, Hope someone can help? I’m trying to follow the zbrush article in 3D world mag number116, I can import the daz 3d figure the freak into zbrush no problem but the trouble starts when instructed to subdivide the mesh, when I press Ctrl+D once the figure seems to symetrically crack. What am I doing wrong?? I apologise in advance as im a newby to zbrush and 3d. I’ve tried to find an answer on the forum but dont seem to be having much luck.
I must confess I haven´t seen this before. But I believe you will be left alone here with your problem. so I´ll try to give some notes whithout knowing if it works.
First, the model can break apart when subdividing at the geometry borders if the model consists of multiple objects. I believe this daz 3d thing was one single mesh originally. But if you import it into maya for instance whithout uncchecking the “create multiple objects” checkbox you could end up with multiple objects. And you probably wouldn´t notice it when you then export it as an obj to be imported into Zbrush.
so make shure that what you import is one single mesh and that the vertices are welded at in the areas that break apart.
second, although I don´t believe that it will cause this behavior, make shure that all UVs are nonoverlapping and ideally in 0 to 1 UV space.
Hope that helps somehow
If your mesh has unwelded points, they will pull apart when you divide. The solution is either to weld the points upon export from your other app, weld them during import to ZBrush, or crease your model before dividing in ZBrush.
Yup, press the Crease button before subdividing.
