Imported Mesh has doubled geometry

When I bring an OBJ into Maya that’s been created in ZB, it’s as if two of the same object is stacked on top of each other.

Selecting all the verts and doing a merge fixes it, but I lose the ability to select edge loops and edge rings.

The UVs appear intact and there are two lights imported with the OBJ as well (one from Headus UVLayout where I layed out my UVs and the other from possibly ZB). I tried re-exporting it by deleting the UVs in ZB but this didn’t change anything.

How do I regain the ability to select loops and rings again?

Thanks,

Hey! I actually came across this exact problem! Turns out, that double sided geometry is actually the inside geometry pushing through the outside. (this happens mostly in clothing or anything that you might’ve thickened in Zbrush)

I fixed this by removing the backing of the mesh.
Check out this vid here for how to remove the backing: Mari & ZBrush | Removing Unnecessary Geometry Exporting Subtools (Module 1: Part 4) - YouTube
This should also help with weighting issues and all that jazz.
