Import Textures to Rhino 3.0

Hello Everyone.

I would like to import textures to Rhino. However, I am having difficulty with the results. The orc on the left is the texture created in Zbrush. The Orc on the right is the result when I import it to Rhino.

Also, I am having some trouble with uvCylider and uvShperical. I’ve search the forum but I can’t find a tutorial on how to create textures using them. Everytime I use them in Zbrush, The results looks like the picture of the orc to the right.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong, or how they export a texture. Thank you for your help.

Well, first off it’s apparent that you need to learn a lot more about UV mapping. For example, a 3D object with planar mapping will always show the same texture on the front and the back, with stretching on the sides. It’s the way that mapping method works.

I recommend that you read the section of the ZBrush 2 Practical Guide that covers the subject of UV mapping. Next, check out Ken Brilliant’s excellent tutorial. I also recommend reading anything the documentation for your rendering engine has to say on the subject.

It pointless to try and get too much into finding the solution to your problem until you have a better understanding of the subject to begin with.

If you are going to use ZB to uv…then I recommend ya stick with either Auv or guv tiles, unless you plan to alter at some time the texture in photoshop or the like.

they offer the best texturing options as long as you stay with pm to work on them elsewhere…with the least distortion so cause no problems when texturing.

(an important note…when using auv or guv tiles make sure you FIRST create a blank texture in the size you plan on using!! then create the map!!!)

I don’t know if Rhino can deal with them tho…

other than that…what Aurick said is true…you need to understand how each mapping type works, how they can cause problems, what their good points are, how to fix em if they aren’t quite the way you want em etc etc.

Thank you for the help. I’m learning something new everyday. Because of everyone’s advice, I will soon be able to create models that I have been thinking about for a long time.
