Import texture flip uv option?

I might have missed this somewhere. when I export textures for uv mapped objects, I always have to flip them of course to match the uv map.

If I import the object, and then want to apply the texture, it is of course flipped, and no longer matches up.

Is there an option on texture import to flip them back to the upsidedown version zbrush uses?

Also, does anyone know why zbrush does this? I would think if it needs this internally, it would flip the images behind the scenes, and then just export them like everything else does. (Unless there’s another popular application out there that uses flipped texture maps?)

I can of course manually fix this by flipping it in photoshop, and using that for zb work, but having a duplicate of the texture for only this use seems non intuative.

Gday Garee,

I don’t think there’s an import option to do this. You would have to load the texture map slot, flip it and texture to polypaint it back onto the model…but you probably already knew this.

I have no idea why ZB actually does not flip the maps automatically as I have not come across a 3d app that reads them the way ZB does…Another ZBrush quirk I suppose.

You’d think by now they would just flip internally, and then whenever you output files, flip it back for us transparently.

Agreed. If you have to flip your maps many times in a session it just gets repetitive and takes away from your art. Maybe the developement team figure that it’s better to just have us do it manually rather than increase the time it takes to process internally.
