import obj/ hole in mesh problems

hello all,

I imported an obj file from maya. Everything is ok except for the fact that the mesh has a hole in it in his chest. On the first sub level, when I used the smooth brush on the area, no hole was present. As soon as I divided it up one level, the hole appeared.

I went back to maya and looked around to find no unmerged verts, etc, so I hit the spot with the smooth tool (just to be sure there is nothing i missed) in maya and re-exported it. Same issue again.

I searched the forum here and found a similar topic but it didnt seem to address the issue. I haven’t yet re-topoed in zb so i am wondering: Can I re-top just that little area??

Any other suggestions would be great!

Thanks a lot all.

you can retop just that little area.
i think maya used to split verts if your normals were going in opposite directions.
another option is in zbrush to select the polymesh3d (the star) and change the Import options to Merge and you may have to change the Weld slider, then import your model, that should fix those broken verts if they are close enough.

thanks a lot, I’ll give that a try:)
