Import Message - Need Explanation Please!

Import_Mesh.jpg

Hi, whenever I import a mesh from a 3D application into ZBrush I get this message and I don’t know what it means. I just created an object and exported it from my 3D app and imported it into ZBrush and got this message. It was not changed so I don’t understand this.

Can someone please explain what this means. Thanks.

The Import feature wants the currently active mesh and the mesh you’re importing to have the same topology. Draw a Polymesh3d primitive on the document then Import your mesh.

Thanks for the reply, Ok, so draw a sphere or anything, then select “Import”? I guess I usually clear the workspace before importing but I guess this is a no no! So when I press yes or no it doesn’t seem to make any difference. I don’t understand why it is necesary to create a sphere first. Does it really matter. Sorry I just don’t understand.

It’s not necessary to create a sphere per se, but if you have another active 3d mesh tool selected, Zbrush thinks youre trying to import that new mesh in to overwrite the current subd level of the mesh you have selected, and since the vertex counts dont match, you get that warning.

So just deselect that active 3d mesh tool, by selecting any other non 3d mesh tool first.

Thanks everyone!
