ImageplaneX and image resolution problem

Hi,

I’m rather new with Zbrush. I’ve watched many tutorials how to use ImageplaneX. I think I got the basics and I’m ready to start my sculpting but… When I try to fill the ImageplaneX with my texture the picture comes in with ridiculous quality.

The image looks fine in photoshop and there shouldn’t be any problems. I’ve importet the image to the ImageplaneX.psd template that comes with imageplane.

What’s going on? Is there somekind of resolution settings in Zbrush that I’m not aware?

Thanks! :+1:

You can display the image as a texture and then it will look fine but if you want to convert to polypaint you must make sure that the image plane tool has enough polygons to support the detail. So:

  1. Import the image into the Texture palette.
  2. Select the Image Plane X tool and press the Tool>Texture Map thumbnail, select the texture map from the pop-up.

This will work fine but if you want to use polypaint you also need to:

  1. Divide the Image Plane X a few times.
  2. Press Tool>Polypaint>Polypaint from Texture.

Niiice. That worked. Thanks a bullion!

Hmm… How come now that I try to reduce the model opacity from the texture > image plane menu it reduces the opacity of both layers. My ImageplaneX and the sculpted subtool?

The Image Plane plugin (menu in the Texture palette) is actually a different thing altogether. You can use it to load reference images into the background and then the Model Opacity slider can be used to make the model transparent (including all subtools).

What you are using is the Image Plane X tool. To change the opacity of the model you need to adjust the Back and Front Opacity sliders in the Preferences>Draw menu. Front Opacity of .4 and Back Opacity of 0 should be good values.

Confusing I know.

Got it! Thanks again.
