Once again I seem to be late to a party.
The last time I attempted to use the image plane feature ( the one located at the bottom of the texture palette)
was many months ago. It did not work.
At that time was advised due to problems to ignore the feature.
Today, in desperation to utilize reference images, pressed the button and got a beautiful circle that seems
to use the images.
Two question.
!. Since this seems to be a recent feature, is there any place to find a tutorial on its use.
2. Besides see through is there any way to import reference images that will “hold steady”
Thank you
Hi,
Image Plane has been in ZBrush for a while. You can read about setting up reference images here:
http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/3d-modeling/reference-images/image-plane/
If you just want to have reference images on screen (rather than modeling in front of them) you can use Spotlight. Images can be added to Spotlight by importing/selecting them in the Texture palette and then pressing the Add to Spotlight button. You can then scale them and move them around the canvas. Using this method you must turn off Brush>Samples>Spotlight Projection in order to be able to sculpt.

HTH,
Hey Marcus!!!
Long time, no hear, hope all is well!!!
Will investigate further.
Last time I used, box appeared and whole thing was worthless.
Was told, I believe, was relic.
The spinning circle caused heart flutters.
Thank you, as usual, for response.
Just in case, great holiday
last post may provide amusement.
Update…still don’t woirk.
No sweat, will muddle through.
When new one comes out, they might want to rethink this function:D
OK.
- Request the moderator to totally delete this post after apology public, signpost of my ignorance, impatience.
- Wish to extend my apologies to Zbrush, most of all Marcus who replied and tried to help (as always)
Now
Image plane does work as stated.
Will not go into all the things I did wrong, but classify into two sections
A. used to be a ztool for loading reference images (that is one that did not work and one that I thought I was working with)
2. wrong type of image loaded
Thank you again Marcus
Also wish to thank Madeline Scott Spencer, her tutorials in The Gnomon Workshop-Introduction to Zbrush 4R8 constantly underlines what I do not know
Hi,
Sorry for the delay in replying - really busy at the moment. I’m well, thanks, and hope you are too. Good to see that you are still around this forum.
I’m so glad you’ve sorted out what was going wrong with Image Plane.
All best,
