I'm going bald....

…from pulling my hair out. Here’s why:

I have ZB3.5r3 and Maya 2010. I am trying to figure out a workflow on how to export a multi-subtool .ma (or .obj) file from ZB and import them into Maya. I have polypaint info on all sub tools etc.

The goal:

I want to do an animation (in Maya) and have it look like it has lots of polys (ala Pixar look). I assume I need to export disp maps etc, but this animation is NOT for a game. It’s for a short clip. Do I need to export each low-poly subtool separately with a separate disp map? If not, do I merge them and THEN export?

AAAAH!

Yes I’ve searched. No I cannot find an UPDATED workflow solution.

Back to salvaging my comb-over…

Well, that’s really up to you: I design animal characters for Poser (so animation-oriented), and I usually have about 6 or 8 subtools. I later export those to obj’s, each with its own texture and displacement map.
Of course, to make things easier, you should try to have as less obj’s as possible, and that depends on how the character will have to be animated.
