This last render turns your piece into a magnificent whole.
I wondered to myself why this simple adjustment in lighting makes such a difference - which led me down the following thought path.
A long time ago (in my days as a student of painting) I had a flash of insight about perspective: really,it’s a system for unification, a method of tying each of the elements of a work to the others (beyond the obvious power that perspectival projection has to create deep, realistic space.)
In this last render, the light and shadow system does the same thing. You achieve a unity and coherent drama that the earlier renderings somehow lacked. There is also a kind of “force” from the left that overcomes the symmetry of the centrally placed figure… and because of that the picture takes on a dynamic drama, a sense of some great anticipation.
Anyway, that’s how I explained it to myself. You’ve taken something very good and with light, made it great.
