id issue

Hi all, tried searching for this but could not find any answers, so here goes:

I have sculpted a mesh in zbrush it has 7 sdiv levels
I need to export the mesh as obj at sdiv lvl1 into max, change the materials id’s and then somehow reimport the id data or the mesh itself back into sdiv lvl1 of the original, so that none of the detail is lost and I can still change from sdiv lvl1 to 7.

Is this even possible in zbrush?

Thanks

Sonder!

Preferences>Importexport has a switch to import mats as groups. I don’t know if this will update a multi-res mesh the same way that UV’s do, but I think it should.

You must export level 1, make your changes, then import the new version into level 1 of the original. However, the point order must not change! Otherwise, the mesh will explode when you return to higher levels.

Thanks for the speedy reply aurick…I get the export and change id bit…but when I import using the Preferences>Importexport option…how do i import it back into a mesh that already has a sdiv lvl1??

If I just import a mesh it gives me an error saying that the object must have an identical number of verticies or sumthing similar.
Is there a special way to remerge the new sdiv lvl1 mesh (with the new id’s) into the old sdiv lvl1?

Thanks again
