I did have a custom UI running but I hit Preferences>Config and restored Standard UI, then saved as to the desktop…
Delete the configuration file at the location given at the top of this page:
http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/customizing-zbrush/interface-layout/
That should return ZBrush to its factory setting.
Hi guys…
None of this worked, I loaded the files Doug and ZBer gave directly and nothing…
Would a screenshot of the canvas help? Its VERY strange, its like someone turned on ZSub and scribbled all over it with the simple brush and made holes, then saved it as the default canvas or something.
The standard brush is a tiny dot and there are I think some other problems but Im not sure about that yet…
Oh, also Marcus, I deleted (moved actually) those files and nothing replaced them, should they have been replaced or something?
Screen grabs help sometimes
In windows 8 the directory should be C:\Users\Public\Documents\ZBrushData\ZStartup correct?
Ok hang on…
So…
To make this I had to scribble for a LONG time with the simple brush instantly after start up (the only thing other then that was closing LightBox).

This is way too weird…
|What if I had somehow saved a default document by accident?
|
Where would it be and how would I reset that?
Also would it affect brushes?
The standard brush is definitely different and others may be as well but I will check if needed…|
|Oh…
|
Geeze Im getting ahead of my self…
Soorry…
Most of the changes I have made to the UI ARE GONE…
Its just that the problems I started off with are still happening, Standard and simple brush insanely small (with and with out dynamic turned on or off (that adds confusion and is one thing I try to keep off as much as posible).
That and the canvas has serious holes in its… um Z or in its depth like my screenshot shows…|
|Ok…
|
So it seems its not the UI.
Thanks you guys for uploading those files though, if that had been it It would have worked perfectly.
It seems its the canvas and some brushes so far:
- None of the 2.5D brushes are right, except the snake hook brush for some reason, either they do nothing or are VERY SMALL (dynamic is turned off).
- The canvas seems VERY far away and is filled with depth problems… or at least holes sort of.
- All of my normal (not curve or selection/clipping or insert) brushes are stuck in tiny mode, I need to set them to 1000 (give or take) to get them to look normal, resetting them doesn’t work. (again, dynamic is turned off)
Do I need to reinstal?
ZBrush is broken and I was having SO MUCH FUN!!!
And now I will eat another fingernail!|
I know this is probably a stupid question (I’m full of them), but did you try create a ‘New Document’ then ‘Save As Starup Doc’?
|
|
Its FAR from stupid, I have been wondering that myself.
I did not do that deliberately but I suspect that could be part of the problem, but would that affect all of my 2.5D brushes AND sculpting brushes as well?
Remember I mentioned the windows 8 gestures? I think this started when I did something with the mouse and all hell broke lose, like things like menu’s went nuts and the tool I was using got dropped suddenly to the canvas (remember that bug where that would happen all the time?).
When I say things went nuts I mean seriously nuts like a whole bunch of different people got control over my mouse at once and all wanted to do something different at the same time and all succeeded, it looked quite insane for about maybe two seconds or so…
If that is what happened, meaning the Save As StartUp Doc idea, how do I fix it? Is there an actual document I could delete?|
Ok…
I just tried out that feature, it isn’t that.
And it didn’t work.
drat… this is so weird.
EDIT:
In the tool popup help thingy it says “ZStartup/ZStartUpDocument.Zbr” can be removed to revert to the default document.
This is true but it does not say which one, its the one in /users/public/* not the one in the Pixologic directory. That could be a helpful distinction maybe.
You’ve got Win8? bummer; I’ve seen in the past (with another software package) where if a config file was somehow corrupted, it could be deleted and the program would build a new one. He did say delete file.
I know, I had to make one to delete it so it wasn’t that… mope…
 Consumption of fingernails is not good. It was working, what changed? Not the atomic structure of matter.
Did you install anything or update anything before it stopped working? I assume you searched your computer for *.cfg and deleted any named as in earlier post, “Windows this is: Users\Public\Documents\ZBrushData\ZStartup\ConfigFiles”
|
|
I know, and they taste like fingernail…
ick!
It happened WHILE I was in ZBrush I think, its hard to say that for sure because I wasn’t using 2.5D or the sculpting tools at the time, but all hell broke lose, I decided that restarting ZBrush was a good idea (like maybe it was crashing or something) and quit without saving, when I started up again the simple brush didn’t work and neither did the standard brush and on top of that thee canvas was messed up.
In order (just a few moments ago) to find out if I had accidentally saved a startup document I tried that feature out, I had not accidentally done that as there was no file there yesterday and so therefore nothing to delete. Basically in order to find out what the file would be I had to create one… so much for that.
I have not installed anything for quite a while and the only thing that has updated is virus definitions which is sort of unrelated I should think and happens just about every day.|
Startup Document…
Not sure if your PC is set to auto update, maybe it’s a service pack. :qu: Can you get to add/remove programs, show updates and see if there is anything there about when your machine died?
THAT was great thinking, but believe it or not didn’t work.
It loaded fine but I still have the same problems. I think the only thing to change is you seem to have an all black background…
This is a new computer, the old one is the one that died, so I dont think its that.
hmmmmm…
I need to look into installing from scratch I think…
Im so tired that this is scary, I need to sleep before I try that.
Or make coffee…
…and then some more coffee
