I need some suggestions on Retopo

So I decided to learn Zbrush and this is my first character :smiley:

I have a question on the retopo.
Should I do the beard and hair seperate, or just retopologise everything in one go?
I’m a bit confused an what’s better for a Game Character.
Also the front horn, should I do it seperate or not? Same goes for the tail and what not.

I’m really new to character modelling so I have no clue :stuck_out_tongue:

EDIT: Actually this is an older screenhot, the character has kind of a ponytail hairpiece

i would suggest one single surface for your character; the only parts that could be separate pieces would be the horns, but I would include them in the mesh.

what also helps is to make the first retopo´s resolution (polycount) a bit higher than the final lowpoly and doing the final reducing and optimizing in maya (in my case); then UV´s, baking, texturing

If you keep the lowres below 10000 tris you can auto rig it for free at the mixamo website, give it a try!
