I LOVE ZBrush, but ye gods...

…is it difficult to keep my bearings…

Will there EVER be some kind of tool in Zbrush that displays a Move/Scale/Rotate widget for the currently selected Subtool? Color coded to the axes? With global/local space so you can control where your focal point is at for rotating/moving them? I will feel absolutely no shame in “depending” on aids like that.

Please. Just please. I am on my knees begging, my brain just seems incapable of accepting the “wild west” method of just winging it as natural.

Cheers!

Was in sort of the same dilemma here, so I customized my UI to help myself out(and maybe some others).
Maybe what I did here could be beneficial to your workflow. Link below post. Cheers.

Thanks! I’ll check it out.

One quick question, maybe you know… haven’t had a chance to dive into your UI files yet… is there a way to make the grid axes REALLY obvious? I tried once and had so-so results… if I just knew which way was which at any given moment that would be a huge boost in moving around inside ZBrush.

Thanks.

Memory helps
I did include buttons to switch views. A bunch of other stuff too. Appears that most people who downloaded were able to get the files in the proper place to work, haven’t heard otherwise. I did make an Axis Object a long time ago with x y and z on it if that would be helpful in any way shape or form.

Unizip this file and put it in the ZBrush 4R7\ZGrids folder. It will then be available through the Lightbox>Grids tab (it will have a picture of the Demo Dog). Load by double-clicking.

You can adjust like this:

To turn off the Floor but keep the axis lines : click the little Y in the Floor button (but keep the button turned on)

To adjust the length of the axis lines: adjust the Axis slider at the bottom of the Draw palette>Modifiers sub-palette.

To adjust the brightness of the axis lines (and the floor grids) adjust the Frame Opacity slider in the Draw palette>Modifiers sub-palette.

You can make the grids colored according to their axis by adjusting the RGB Frame slider in the Draw palette>Modifiers sub-palette.

Or you can change the grid color by clicking the Grid Color swatch to the right of the RGB Frame slider.

When you’ve got an arrangement you like you can save it as a Grid file at the top of the Floor section in the Draw palette.

HTH,

Awesome, thanks for that… seems very useful. Big improvement, I just wish the ZBrush geniuses (NOT sarcastic) would not try so hard to be unique in their interface and add a darn widget like Max and Maya and Modo and pretty much most of them have. Just leave it off and let people turn it on when they need it…

Thanks again!
