i keep getting an error message when i start up

Hello,
i keep getting this error message when i open zbrush.
“Unable to open/Creat a File C:\PROGRAM FILES )x86)\PIXOLOGIC\ZBRUSH 3.5 R3\ZStartup\Tempfiles/seanch.mem”

what is this mean? is it just saying i do not have enough ram?
also is there anyway to preview the normal map after i created, in the viewport?(it used to in zmapper, but now its gone)

thanks

That errror could be caused by a few things.

  • Try deleting the contents of your \ZBrush 3.5 R3\vmem folder.
  • Make sure that your C drive has at least 15% free space.
  • Make sure that your C drive is defragmented.
  • Check your permissions. If a permissions setting is preventing ZBrush from writing to its own folders, that error will happen.
Regarding your second question, ZBrush does not have a feature for rendering normal maps. This was very hit or miss with ZMapper because ZMapper could only render one implementation of normal maps. There are many rendering engines which give different results with different maps. As a result, we often saw cases where a map looked wrong in ZMapper but would have looked fine in the target application – if the user hadn’t assumed something was wrong and thrown it out. Or cases where the map looked great in ZBrush but wrong in the target application. As GoZ is able to be released for various target applications this will be far superior to a native ZBrush render of normal maps.

I’m getting the error message incorrect file permissions detected. please relaunch as administrator? how do i fix this? how do i change file permissions if thats the issue?

Browse to the ZBrush 3.5 R3 folder and right-click on the ZBrush application. Choose Properties from the context menu. In the window that will open, go to the Compatibility tab. At the bottom of that tab, check the box to run as administrator. Do not activate any other options on that tab. Click Apply, close the window, then run ZBrush.

thank you, worked like a charm:) .
