I have an ant problem

Using several reference images, I have created a Zsphere ant that Im happy with. However, I am experiencing adaptive skin problems where body parts are not blending in the way I want.

The high res photo of the mesh shows what Im talking about - the ones circled in red are the problems and the one in blue is closer to what I want.
The problem is zoomed in on the ‘knee’ of the ant

Theres probably a simple solution, so could any ZBrush boffins lend a hand?

thanks

Hi,

The problem is related to how the automatic skinning subdivides around those problem areas. The Tool > Adaptive Skin > IRes slider determines how many child zspheres are allowed before the subdivision resolution is increased. Per default it is set at 6 which means you will need 7 child zspheres before the resolution is increased. Try setting IRes to 2 or 3. Also, turn on polyframe view mode so you can see the effects more clearly (Shift + f).

The IRes setting is a global setting so for some models you will want to set the XYZ subdivision resolution manually. You can do that by changing the Transform > X/Y/Z res sliders before adding a zsphere.

I wrote a small zplugin called XYZadjust that allows you to modify the XYZ resolution settings of zspheres after they are drawn. It also allows you to set the membran values on a per zsphere basis. Please check the XYZadjust for the two downloads needed. Sorry, the thread is a bit messy.
