Can you make custom alpha maps in zbrush. The reason i asked is because I want to put angel wing on the guy I’m working on now and I want to be able to take the hi res down to the lo res and keep the all the detail and make an alpha at the sametime. Its for a game model.
Do you mean alpha as in transparency? No.
What I typically do for things that need alpha like hair and such is make it a mesh with a shape close to the final. In this case a feather. Then position them all. Later I will make the planes and line it up to the mesh to bake the normal, ao and mask from it. It can take quite a while.
Your other option is to just position the planes and not worry about it until you texture.
thanks man you have been a bigg help
What about Tool:Texture Map with the transparent button turned on? Black areas in the map translate to transparency on the mesh. If one needs to see backfaces, clicking the Double button in Tool:Display Properties should do the job.
