I had a farm in Africa at the foot of the Ngong Hills..

okay so i decided to take the plunge and enter 3dTotals Speed Sculpting Challenge here:
http://forums.3dtotal.com/showthread.php?t=58582

I’m thinking Out of Africa as a reference for my giraffe girl, although i’m not sure if i should just go with the lingerie look, hmm.
I’m finding its going to be difficult to decide which details to add to make it more realistic without wiping out what i’ve already got.
i’m at 75mins done out of 4hrs available.
C&C and suggestions are welcome. tests.jpg

some small updates, i decided to erase the eyelashes until later, fixed the ears and formed the scarf to be more historically acurate. need to bring some more life back into the collar. and add the hair and hints of fur.
i’ve lost the model 4 times to crashes and one accidental delete, this really kills my enthusiasm. around 2hrs right now.
someone had said they liked her better without clothes, i can agree but really am feeling more inspired to try to base it on something a little more meaningful, whatever helps you through right?
any input would be welcome.

publicities

hahaha, nice frenchy those are pretty funny. not really what i’m going for though, those are more human bodies with animal heads, i’m still trying to keep the head a little more human, maybe i’ve gone too far away from that though…

Hi!,

This piece is looking great so far! Looking at it, it looks like you could combine the surface clothing and the lingerie ideas since the pose makes it pretty easy to picture the top shirt opening in a manner that would also hint at, or show outright everything underneath - that way you could get the best of both worlds. It's made all the easier by that in your clothed sculpt, the scarf is already helping pull the eye toward the salient area due to its shape and the shirt opening is triangular in a way that also draws the eye (at least this is the official reason for looking there...;) ). Definitely also keep the hat, I don't know why but it adds a lot of charm to the overall sculpt. Can't wait to see where this goes.

Johannes

Johannes, thanks a lot, i was totally thinking the same thing about the scarf as a directional aid;). i love the hat myself and am surprised i was able to make it out of the teeth geometry. i got to get craking on the hair. those eyelashes are really bugging me though i don’t know if i should reattempt something like in the first picture with a little refinement, i was thinking along the lines of as if it was a toy or sculpture, usually they are painted on but we are not allowed to do that, probably be the last thing do. thanks again, i think this might actually be my first thread with just my own work, crazy.

I like the fact that you’ve gone for a female bust instead of a male one like the others in the contest.

I think they should have a side prize for ingenuity.

Good luck with the contest.

Cheers,
Revanto :stuck_out_tongue:

hey space i like where this is going and am surprised you pulled a hat out of the teeth i thought that was a separate subtool when i first seen that. this is really creative and like the rhythm and form it has. I also bought Animal Anatomy for Artists by Goldfinger book and it really helped me to get more realistic and accurate forms into my sculpts. I like it space i will be watching for updates. :+1:

good to see you posting your stuff again.

well i had some more time available to work on this. i’m at 3hrs20min, so i’ll have to get the small detailing done quickly, thankfully though i have the right brushes and alphas to do so, its amazing how quick things can be done when you have the right tools. i have made heavy use of Brian Silva’s FalloffSharp brush, i used this for the hair, folds, eyelids, lapels, just about everything. i think i can pull off what i want in the 40min i have left. i added a small tear to the back of the shirt as well.

Revanto, thank you very much, but there are some other really nice female sculpts goin on there as well.

Troy, yeah i’m surprised as well, that book is awesome, i love how it goes over each muscle and has joint rotations, and form profiles. I wish you would enter the contest there are still a few days left, at least give it a shot.ZBrush Document.jpg

Looks great! Is that a Hilton daughter?
Lemo

Its like a character taken right out of Blacksad. Awesome comic, and awesome model. :+1:

haha, thanks Lemo, i’m not exactly sure i know what you mean, is there a Paris simularity?

mkk316, thankyou very much, i never heard of that comic, but after now googling it, it seems nice, the artwork is nice as well. as i said i was basing her outfit on Out of Africa so maybe that and the hat could make her fit in the comic.

It is getting nicer and nicer !

shes very pretty.love the flow of her :).

gpepper, thanks, looking at the older versions myself i’m surprised by how its changed.

DELTATHUNDER, yes i find that flow and form are very important, i’m happy with the choice i made of a giraffe because of the natural flows and curves, thanks.

Hey man, nice to see this on the ZBC forum. I think youll be up there on the top listings
…Though I dont think my Cubicle Sloth will be there haha

aa-ron, man i loved that sloth, i didn’t think you were done with it, but i liked it, whats funny is i knew this guy named travis and he looked just like that
thanks for the vote of confidence but there are some really awesome models in there so i’ll be in the lower depths. i just finished my model but havent put the pictures together yet, eating cookies as a congratulations to myself for finishing, i have to say out of all my zbrush models i think this is the first one i really like.

I’m loving this Spaceboy412.

I have to admit, when I saw the first image I wasn’t really feeling it. But man, you have pushed it lightyears past the start and in a small amount of time! I like the style and the execution.

Good luck.

i finally hit the 4hr mark, there are of course a few things i would still have liked to finish, but it was awesome to have a deadline and to see what i could do, even though zbrush crashed 6 times and i was in “compacting memory” hell. thanks to all for the help and positive feedback it meant a lot, i’ve been very shy about posting my work in the past. the linen texture detail i put on her shirt doesn’t show up too well with these low res pictures, this is my final version for the contest, i may however take it a little further for myself. i just want to add that out of all the zbrush models i’ve made this is the first one that i am happy with.

Poda, thanks for your honest opinion, i too feel it has come a long way, even though i was limited in sculpting time, the time inbetween i spent thinking about where to go with it when i was able to get back in there, so the deadline was great to push my mind in the right direction and stop me from obsessing. btw i enjoy your work as well:+1:

Absolutely brilliant concept and instigation…

And…not a naked breast or triple jointed leg in sight.
