I Do Not Bow - A Stand Against Prejudice

I would like to start this topic saying this series is not a political post, I am not a leftist or right wing guy, I am just an artist that believes in liberty, with all that comes with it, liberty to say whatever we want and to stand by the consequences of our words.

This artistic renditions of Brazil’s minorities are a protest against Brazil’s new president, Jair Bolsonaro. Those quotes here are a thermometer of our times, this post truth world, full of fake new and ideology that are hurting democracies all over the world, and I hope it brings us to a reflection on what are we here as artist for, should we use our artistic voice to protest? Well mainstream art is all about this, but in the digital community I don’t see this happening often…

Regarding those quotes, I believe I had to do something to raise awareness and put out something beautiful as a response from them. One person can not simply get away after saying viciously and out loud what he says against LGBT, Native Indians, Black people, Women, etc…

It exposes a deep wound in our society and all the prejudice our society carry on a veiled way, as DESPITE all of that, or even worse, BECAUSE all of that, he won the presidency election of 2018. It is outrageous, and those quotes could come out as a shock for you that are not familiar with Bolsonaro, but I guarantee it was hard to choose between so many despicable quotes available for each of those themes.
Since when I made those images a lot has changed in the political landscape in Brazil I finished this in the beginning of the year and since he started to rule he took a lot of authoritarian measures and is clearly trying to apply some sort of vendetta on the cultural and artistic community, to the teachers and even tried t take some of the tax exempts from some of those professionals as a punishment…

If you don’t care about the background political statement behind these images please try to enjoy the art, if you like it and if you are pro liberty help me spread the word. I will not bow.

Your art works are very nicely done and you seem to be a level headed and genuine person.
Regarding your political views.
It must be said that this president of yours is using base statements to gain votes. He most likely does not even think like that. These statements gain traction with all the totally disenfranchised majority which is the result of leftist politically correct ideologies that are so favored by the loud mouths out there, used by minorities, fostered by sensationalist press etc etc etc and above all further distributed by social media which is predominantly young and usually not very experienced in real world stuff. Those are the facts that are usually underlying reality as most people perceive it. Unfortunate but true. The wish you have for civility and genuine change is shared by most intelligent people but the realization of this is another matter. When it comes to the big picture minorities must adapt, or they will be destroyed by the shear weight of numbers alone. So what is the answer? Well there is none really. Trying to do it thru revolution only leads to idiots like Castro in Cuba and another dictator, trying to do it thru politics requires that you get involved in the dirtiest business of all and you need to be seriously tough to survive and above all connected. Even then you will likely get little done. Trying to do it thru popular movements usually ends up a fiasco - just look at Spain. Trying to do it thru art is basically useless unfortunately. So what is left? Good question.
In regards to the options available in most countries just look at the USA. There we have a very smart and capable guy called Trump doing what a president should do for his own nation and yet he is also stepping on the minorities. Seems like it is unavoidable under the dynamics of modern life. The problem is that the opposition in the US is made up of total idiots. Polosi, AOC, Nadler, Schiff , Clinton, Biden and the list goes on. As long as the opposition does not take in the average citizen who works to stay alive they will always lose. I mention the US as an example of a democracy that has a long track record and yet they still have these problems. I wish you well.
