I can't get from the draw window to the edit window

I just got ZBrush 3.1 a few days ago, the Edit button stoped working yesterday. I tried to go from the draw window to the edit window using the following steps:

After starting up ZBrush with a blank workspace, I selected the 3D sphere tool then pressed the left mouse button and dragged so a 3D sphere primative would appear in the Draw window. I clicked the create polymesh 3D in the Tool pallete then clicked the Edit icon on the left of the Draw Icon. The Edit icon did not turn orange. I also tried the keyboard shortcut by pressing the “T” key, again the Edit icon did not turn orange. I’ve also tried to restart ZBrush with the same results and then restarting windows and ZBrush with the same results.

I’ve also uninstalled ZBrush, then ran a search on the hardrive and registry to delete any remaining portion of Zbrush that uninstall did not removed; then did a complete install. I still have the same problem. I am running Windows Vista home edition. What is preventing me from getting into the edit window?

The problem is that when you clicked the MakePolyMesh3D button, that snapshot the current model to the canvas because you weren’t yet in edit mode.

Here’s the way to do it:


  1. Draw your model
  2. Enter Edit mode
  3. Make Polymesh
Or:


  1. Select the model in the Tool palette
  2. Make polymesh
  3. Draw the model
  4. Enter Edit mode
