I am a new Z-Brusher having some issues with the Mac Version

Hello ZBC,

After not touching Z for months I have finally started to play around in it and learn it. This is my first time using a 3D app so I am not sure if my big problems are my fault or if the Z3 on Mac is a little buggy, so I am hoping someone here can confirm one of these two.

Sorry to bombard with questions, but any feedback is really appreciated.

  1. The biggest problem I am facing is trying to append subtools. I know how to do it, I select “append” and let’s say for example I choose a sphere. The sphere goes on stage as it should with my other tool, but the moment i try to do anything to that sphere, like scale, move or rotate it, either it disappears or the tool I was working with before I appended it disappears. And not just disappears from the stage but from the subtool layer pallet as well. So basically I am unable to work with subtools.
Tonight I managed to get another tool I made to stay on stage for a moment to be scaled, but it had a big black square behind it, then after the scale my other tool vanished.

  2. I thought the hot keys x, y and z could activate x,y and z symmetry; but this does not work for me. is this option not available on the OSX release?

  3. Is there a way to make Radial Symmetry affect the desired area you are working on only? Whenever I turn it on, it seems to be “radial” around the part of my mesh which seemed to be the first Z-Sphere I created (example: the main head portion of the little worm posted below) If I wanted to use it on the tail of the worm for instance it would not work, all the points would be by the head. Why is this?

  4. The plugin for "Adjust Draw Size, Focal Shift and Z Intensity does not show up in the ZPlugin menu after I installed it. Does this no longer work for Z3?

Thanks in advance for any answers. I look forward to the day when I am knowledgeable enough to contribute something back to the forum.

For #1, I have no idea what’s happening. That’s very strange behavior.

  1. X turns on symmetry, but you must use the options in the Transform palette to determine which symmetry mode(s) you want.

  2. Hide everything except the part of the model you’re working with, then press Transform>S.Pivot. This sets the center for symmetry and deformation purposes to the center of the visible mesh. Use C.Pivot to return to normal.

  3. That plugin has been updated for ZBrush 3 for the Mac and the new version is available from the Download Center. (See my signature.) It must be installed correctly in order to appear in your interface, though.

thank you Aurick. You rock.

  1. for this I guess I should open a support ticket. I will see if I can get some video screen grab software and record the issue.

  2. okay

  3. hell yeah, thank you  I will try this

  4. I thought I installed it right, I placed it in ZStartup>ZPlugs
I tried placing just the .zsc file in there and I tried placing the entire folder that unzipped from the download section but neither show up.

So, I have the same problem while trying to Append a subtool with Zspheres, the tool wich I was working on dissapears!!!

And not even Pixologic knows whats happening??.. please improve ZBRUSH OSX

I opened a ticket about it with support, it is not a bug. you need to make sure whatever subtool you are appending has been made into a 3D polymesh first. or make it into a polymesh then re append your other tool.
