AA-ron - There is in fact a small story behind the image. Mainly, the choice the Alien Baboonman must make :). The base meshes were made in maya. All sculpting uv maping and texture painting was done in zbrush. I then exported my meshes back to maya along with all the textures for the final render. I used normal maps to transfer the high rez details onto a medium rez mesh for rendering with mental ray. The background sky is painted where as the ground is a modified snipet from mars herself.
