Hpolish Help

Can anyone give me a tutorial on how to use HPolish brush? Every time I use it, it just digs into my model. It acts almost like clay buildup with zsub.

I have reset all brushes and tested the pressure settings on my wacom tablet but still I can not figure out how to get nice flat crisp geometry and edges.

I must be doing something wrong but I just can’t figure out what.

Thanks.

Try playing with the size and intensity of the hPolish brush. It looks like you’re using a brush size too small. The hPolish brush works partly by evaluating the surface around it to polish, so if your brush size is too small, it will just cut into it. Besides, the hPolish does not create completely straight geometry, it just “smoothes” out the mesh while maintaining any edges. Generally, the hPolish is for more organic shapes, like armor edges or armor plates, where 100% symmetry and flatness is not that important.

I would tell you to use the Clip Curve brush instead if you want a 100% flat surface.

You could also try the Planar brush. It will create a 100% straight plane from the orientation of the first stroke.
