How to use a subtool to make a dent in another mesh?

I have two subtools, a smaller one and a bigger one.
Now I want the smaller subtool to be partially embedded in the big mesh. They shouldn’t intersect, so I need to make a dent in the big mesh where the small mesh can fit.

I cannot do a boolean because the big mesh must not change its geometry (it’s needed as a morph target). All I can do is pushing vertices around.

Do I need to sculpt it manually or can I somehow use the small subtool to make a dent in exactly the same size and shape?
You know, like pressing a stamp into soft clay?

You can try the Matchmaker brush.

On second thought, if you want to subtract from a mesh, that might not work. In that case, maybe an alpha might work.

I found the ZProject brush works quite well. What I did was:

  1. Positioned the Sphere relative to the Head
  2. Used Shift+Ctrl+drag to hide part of the Sphere so I can see inside
  3. Turned on Tool>Display Properties>Double to see the inside
  4. Used the ZProject brush with ZAdd on to project part of the Sphere to match the Head. I used ZIntensity at 100 and a large Draw Size.

Note that the ZProject brush only works in the screen plane and won’t produce any undercuts.ZProject_Brush.jpg

The ZProject brush is exactly what I needed, thanks for pointing it out to me! :+1:small_orange_diamond:D
