Material is separate from the ZTL. Simply load the desired MatCap again.

You can also save as a ZProject (File>Save As). The ZPR format will save the material with the model – along with a lot of other data.

If you use Fill option in Subtool Master, it will save the material and color with the tool.

Guys you are GREAT!!! :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:
thank you very much!!

I want to second the initial question as I have some problems saving material with tools (in ZB4 Mac).

Here a description :

FIRST CASE
1- I made a tool
2- I affect a standart material : I fill the objet with MRGB checked
3- I save the tool and closed ZB
4- I reopen ZB and load the tool : I observe the material is correctly affected to the tool

All is OK

SECOND CASE
1- I made a tool
2- I affect a standart material : I fill the objet with MRGB checked
3- I modify the material : changing properties with the material palette. I clearly see the change in the canvas
3- I save the tool and closed ZB
4- I reopen ZB and load the tool : I observe the material is correctly affected to the tool, but it is the non modified version of material

So my questions :

How to save one or several modified materials with a tool, without having to save separetely materials + tool and reaffecting them one by one every time I reoppe the tool? What is the best workflow?
I would like to have a solution without saving the whole ZB project (if possible).

Hope the question is clear, thanks for answering.

Anybody could answer please ?

It can’t be done. If you don’t want to save the ZPR then you must save the tool and materials individually.

The only data that the tool records is the material index number for each of the model’s point. It does not record material settings for that material slot. So if you have modified your materials and painted them onto the tool you will need to save those materials and load them back into the same slot later.

This is one of the reasons why the ZProject format was created. But if you don’t want to use it, then you have to use the older method.

Clear answer, thanks Aurick.
