How to reset Dynamesh Resolution?

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone else is getting this issue, while I’m working with Dynamesh I’m dividing pieces off my original mesh into new dynameshes, the problem is when I do this it retains the orginal resolution from the starting mesh.
The only way I’ve managed to re-update the resolution size for that new Dynamesh model is to reimport the mesh. I was wondering if there was a way to reset the Dynamesh resolution for subtracted parts inside zb?

I’m not entirely certain what you’re describing here, but as a rule Dynamesh wont update topology unless there’s something to update, for instance vertices have changes position, or you change a setting in the Dynamesh menu that requires an update, like Blur. If you make a single stroke on an object, it will retopologize when you re-mesh.

I have noticed that in some specific situations with multiple meshes in the same subtool, and the groups button is pressed, if you edit one object but not another, Dynamesh will only update the object that was edited, leaving the other unchanged. Sometimes a second re-mesh will update the other object. Otherwise un-press the Groups button to make sure everything is updated as one mesh.

Most situations in Dynamesh can be fixed by simple hitting Undo, and adjusting settings until you get the result you want. If for some reason this is not applicable to your situation and you want more mesh resolution, remember you can always subdivide the object. Just remember theres an upper limit to Dynamesh for detail, and extreme detail will begin to be lost.

I’ll take a crack at this, though I’m not 100% if I understood the question correctly.

  1. Convert the DynaMesh to PolyMesh3D via the Make PoyMesh3D button.
  2. Turn down/up the DynaMesh Resolution slider.
  3. Enable the ReProjected DynaMesh button.
  4. Press the DynaMesh button to turn it back on.

Your new mesh should retain all of the details of the original but at a lower or higher resolution. It may take several tries to get just right, but I’ve found this method works pretty well for changing the resolution of a DynaMesh without losing its details.

Hope that helps.
