How to reset Axis

I have a subtool which was created in ZBrush AFTER my main mesh was transposed. Therefore, the tool (a helmet, in this case) has very strange orientation. Each axis is cockeyed. When I exported the helmet as an OBJ and imported into 3dsmax, of course the orientation is all out of whack.

Is there a way to “reset” each (or any) of the axis for a tool in ZB? This is not a symmetry problem, it’s definietly an axis thing.

Thanks everyone.

I don’t fully grasp what the problem you’re having is, but if you need the axis to be reset in 3dsmax, you can do that by selecting your helmet in max, going to Command Panel>Hierarchy Panel, enabling Affect Pivot Only, then either using one of the Alignment buttons or positioning the pivot where you want it manually with the transform tools.

Hope that helps.

If the imported object doesn’t look right in the orthogonal views in ZB for some reason, I re-align it with the “rotate” feature from the deformations tab until it’s positioned the way I want. When re-exported, it’s usually a few seconds to put it back in orientation with Maya or Max. If symmetry is a problem, I correct with smart-resym. If the world pivot is off, I use the S.Pivot button on transform pallet to get the pivot back in the center of mass.

Thanks to you both for the great help. Kerwin, you hit the nail on the head…the deformation “rotate” worked perfectly. Duh…I don’t know why I never thought of that.

Thanks again.
