how to polypaint on existing texture

I have a .ztl file with an existing texture (4k) that I would like to paint on with some more detail. Essentially I want to to the same as sculpting with ZADD AND ZSUB but with RGB. I figured switching on RGB and switching off the others should work, bu instead I get nothing - the brush has no effect.

Could somebody explain to me step by step how I can paint onto the mesh without using projection master? I have colourize switched on and followed these instructions:

http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/Paint_It!

but for some reason I cannot paint on the mesh!

Hit the ‘Txr>Col’ button in the Texture panel. This will transfer all the color on your texture to polypaint. You’ll then be free to polypaint your object. When satisfied you can then hit the ‘Col>Txr’ button to get a texture back.

thanks - that seems to somewhat work - however it “switches” the material back to the standard red translucent look, and I seem to be not able to select another material anymore after I have done this? I know I dont care about the material in terms of exporting the texture in the end, but it would help to change it for painting.

Also I seem to get a lot of strokes that where previously invisible popping up, I assume when I was sculpting I had RGB on (but it had no visual effect), but now that I have done TXR>COL they all show up, which is strange …

To cut a long story short: After doing Txr>Col - how do I get a flat lambertian material on my model, rather than the red material which makes it impossible to actually see the colours I painted?

Select a material and then hit ‘Fill Object’’ in the color panel. This will fill your object with the selected material and color.

If you’ve already done the Txr>Col then you can disable the ‘RGB’ switch and it’ll fill the object with the material only, while preserving your current polypaint. (provided the ‘M’ switch is enabled’)

just change the material before you do the switch to polypainting. I’d suggest toy plastic, just bring down the spec in the material settings…

thanks mate, that was quick and precise, very helpful! saved me a lot of painful figuring out there.

thanks!
