How to place scale action line in center of area to be scaled?

Hi,

If I have a circular area which I want to scale down to create an edge loop, I Ctrl click the circle (polygroup) to mask off the area I want to scale. At this point I click in the middle of the circle to place the transform line. However, it is difficult to find the exact center of the area. If I don’t place the transpose line in the dead center, the scaling operation will be a tad offset to where the transpose line is.

Is there a way to place the transform line to the dead center of the (circular) area I want to scale?

Thanks.

I’ve actually seen that just before posting the question. But what I wanted to know if there’s a way to automatically center the action line to the center of a selection? I don’t want to just eyeball it. In the screenshot, I want to place the action line in the dead center of the selection so I can scale it precisely. The document only talks about how can I eyeball it by manually placing the action line. I was looking for a sort of automatic, precise way.

If the area in question is symmetrical along a primary axis, hide all but the target area, then with local symmetry activated, turn on X and Z, Y and Z, or X and Y symmetry depending on the facing, enter transpose mode and place the transpose anchor where the dots converge. Then unhide the mesh and perform your transpose operation.

That’s brilliant, thanks Spyndel!

There’s some settings for it too. http://docs.pixologic.com/reference-guide/preferences/transpose/
