How to make seams in clothing

I’m creating a character whose clothing requires many stitched seams, some thicker than others.

Is the best way to do this by projecting on a texture and paint in lines of displacement to give an impression of seams? If not, what is?

I searched around, but didn’t find this…I’m wondering if there are any alphas specifically for seams.

Thanks for answering my newb questions, this forum is a :+1: godsend :+1:

It would be easiest to probably just create a “stich” alpha and adjust the lazy mouse settings to get it to repeat correctly when drawing a stroke. Meats goes over this in his new ZB3 Gnomon DVD.

From there you could hand tweak specific areas in order to achieve the look you’re going for.

The layer brush with lazy mouse turned on is awesome for just this type of detailing.

thanks for the tips guys. I was also thinking the alpha method is probably the best way. Cheers.

Noggin produced some good brush presets for this here.
