How to make a notch into a model?

I´d like to know, how to get a hole into a model. I´d created an axe and now I need to get the handle into it. Because it shall get printed and cast I´d like to have this hole already in the grafic.
And because the printer demands it, the mesh must be consistently.

I´m not sure, but I think I´d seen this some time ago in a free tutorial, but pity, I can´t find it again.

Any hint will be appreciated

One technique is here: http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/Topology:_Mesh_Editing

Another method is to use the Edge Loop feature. Hide all but the polygons that are where you want your notch to be. Move them inward (such as by using Tool>Deformation>Size with a negative value). Then press Edge Loop to construct new polygons between where your polygons started and where they are now. These will form the walls of your notch.

Yet another method in 3.5 is to use the Remesh feature with a boolean modifier. This may be the best option since you could create your “tab” as a SubTool and clone it. You would then remesh twice – once with a subtract modifier to remove one of the tab copies from one part of your model and once with an add modifier to attach the matching tab copy to the other part of your model.

Hi Aurick andthx for your response
I´ll give those possibilitys a try and post, which was best for me.
(As far as I´m able to do them)

Hey o/

I´d tried the Remeshmethod and it works, but not really satisfying, but I´m loosing all the details although getting the res-slider up to 1024.
Maybe I should have mentioned, that the model is nearly at it´s finish.

So I took me a cylinder, placed it properly and masked the intersection, as you described for the edgeloopmethod.
Then I made a polygroup, hid the rest and pressed it a small amount inward.
After that I cut off the end of the inpressed and the end of the Cylinder and merged them. After several exp/imp as .obj with weld at max it seems to be waterproof now.
If not I´ll get en echo from printingstudio ^^

I stumbled over the ZCut option. Is there any actual use of it, cause it´s greyed out.
That option would be ideal, as far as I was able to see in the old descriptions.
