How to keep material on subtool?

I have a UV texture on the shell subtool(the one with the decals). I changed the material to a Reflect-Red material and then went to Color>Fill Object(with the “M” Material channel selected in the main menu area). Then when I go another subtool to change it’s material in the same manner the shell also changes to that other subtool’s material which I don’t want. I can change it back temporarily to the Reflect-Red material again but the other subtool changes too.

I want each subtool UV textured with a different material within ZBrush. The body and the shell can’t seem to keep a unique UV and material while every other subtool can.

I painted the subtool in Projection Master and that seems to fix the problem.
