How to get rid of triangles in Sphere topology?

I’ve got a spherical model which needs sculpted detail all over, but the triangles at the top and bottom of the sphere in the topology are causing trouble. Is there any way to get rid of these triangles whilst still using a sphere?

When I edit the topology I get big holes in the mest if I replace the triangles with quads/squares.

The easiest way is to just use a cube that’s subdivided a few times. You can also use the defaultsphere project, which would give you similar topology.

If you need to use the existing sphere, remesh with a lower resolution should give you an all-quad topology, though it might not be as pretty. Dynamesh on the other hand might give you a few triangles scattered throughout the mesh, but they should cause as much of a problem.
