how to export from Zbrush 2018 to Maya 2018?

I am using Maya 2018, Zbrush 2018

I sculpt a 3D object in Zbrush 2018

Example 1 :

I export this Zbrush 2018 3D object to a .ma Maya file

when I import this .ma Maya file into Maya 2018, nothing happens. There is just nothing, no 3D object in Maya 2018.

Example 2:

I export this Zbrush 2018 3D object to a .obj file

When I import this .obj file into Maya 2018, the importing process will runs forever and Maya 2018 will eventually takes up all memory and CPU.

Please tell me how do I export a .ma file from Zbrush 2018 to Maya 2018 successfully?

Thank You

  1. You can export as a .MA file using the SubTool Master plugin in the Zplugin palette. Use the “Export” function and select the .MA extension in the pop-up. (The export failure you describe is a known issue and will be fixed in the next update.)

  2. Alternatively, you can use the FBX ExportImport plugin to export as an FBX file which you can import into Maya.

Make sure that your model is not too high a polygon count for Maya and your system. This may be the problem you are experiencing with OBJ.

Thank you for the quick reply.

It is much appriciated.

How do I get the FBX plugin?

The FBX ExportImport plugin is already installed. Look in the Zplugin menu.
