How to Export a model then re import it after unwrapping it

Hey all I got a quick question I am hoping that I can get a answer to. I have spent day of work on a Goblin Slingshot model and realized that I never unwrapped some of the parts I simply muddled the base mesh in 3ds Max 2009 then imported it into zbrush to start modeling. Well I am coming near the end of the models I am doing and will need to texture this bad boy but I never generated the UVW Map Oo

Now if memory serves me correctly you can import and exsport models back and forth from Zbrush and still keep the higher levels of work as long as you do not add points to the base mesh so say my base started with 4k polys as long as I do not ADD polys to the base then I can go ahead and export it to say Max 2009, unwrap the model and bake in the UVW Map, and then re import it into the .ztl tool that it came from. So the question I have is what are the steps of getting it back into the base model? Do I simply have to have the tool active and tell it to import obj and select the new obj I unwrapped in Max?

Another question also comes to mind. I created the creature out of ZSpheres to try out the new Z sketch up (amazing tool for fast modeling and getting a rough design) but this means after I finished doing the modeling I need to also create a UVW map for this do I do the same thing?

Thanks for any help you guys can provide of guide you can point me to and have a great night/day!

You basically answered your question yourself. On Re-import of the now UV’ed obj you just have to have that tool active on the same subdiv level as when you exported … click on import and ZB will pick up the UV Map.

That’s all
Hope it helps.

For your second question, I think you might be better off if you retopo your mesh and do your uvs with an external program.

Good Luck
