How to Dynamesh a high poly model? (Answered)

I have a high poly model that I want to do some dynamesh sculpting on. I want to change a particular part of the model, but leave the rest of the model in tack with all the high poly detail untouched.
I deleted all lower subdivisions on my high poly model and tried to dynamesh it. I cant seem to set the dynamesh resolution high enough to keep all the details on my model.

I have tired sculpting the changes I want onto a clone and projecting that back onto the original, but I end up getting overlapping geometry due to the extensive dynamesh sculpting.

Is there a way around this?

Thanks!

Problem solved.

I had another crack at it and figured out how to get it to work. I had the process backwards.
I cloned my model and dynameshed the original at the highest resolution and did my sculpting. Once the sculpting was finished, I disabled dynamesh and masked off the new sculpted area, then projected the original high poly details from the clone onto the newly sculpted model.
Phew. :stuck_out_tongue:

Question about your solution:
If you had enough resolution and topology in your original high res to support the projection from the dynamesh, then why did you need dunamesh in the first place?
