How to create holes in subtools?

Well, I would like to create a set of goggles, you know, WW1 style. But to do that I need to create holes where the lenses would be. I know there has to be a way to do this. Any suggestions?

BTW…How did this work out for you?

Shadowbox would be very helpful with this.

Duplicate your head in the subtool, press shadowbox and then ctl drag to remove the second head mask in the shadowbox to empty it . Draw the glasses with shadowbox masking using the head as a visible subtool guide for both drawing and positioning the glasses.

Here’s a very rough example:

Hey zber2, yeah, that would be a good basic example of what I’m looking for with those red goggles. And thanks Nancyan for the shadowbox idea, brain fart on my part for forgetting to use that. However I would like to be able to slice a hole in not only subtools made from shadowbox but also from tools that I make from primitives or other shapes.

Oh yeah, and zber2, I did receive your reply to my straight line drawing help. Well, as far as I’ve been able to get is to select Stroke -> Backtrack -> Line. Then when I drag over a subtool to apply the Standard Zadd, for instance, a green line is drawn with two white circles at either end of it. But when I let go of the mouse button, nothing happens. The line and the circles disappear. I think I’m missing a step here. Was it something else in the stroke settings that I missed. Ah, I’ll work on uploading a screen shot in the meantime.

In any case, thanks for the replies guys. Looks like a great forum community here especially with checking back in to see if I had worked things out on previous problems!

After you draw the line, don’t take your finger off of LMB. Move the mouse back along the track. Ergo, the name Backtrack. Move the mouse back and forth several times without taking your finger off of LMB.

Shogun, I know you know this one too, but for any beginners reading this thread and wondering…

Clone your mesh. In subtools append a zsphere with your mesh. Select the zsphere in the subtools palette and go to the Topology( subpalette in tools palette) and “select topo” picking the clone. Then press edit topology. From there it’hole..jpg s easy to remove and reconnect points to create a hole.
